Weekends Are The Greatest!

What a lovely weekend. Saturday was spent shopping. We were on the lookout for a cool knife for N for his b'day. We found an awesome knife that had a serrated-straight blade and good lock. We also got him a very nice Kings hat. If you know Nathan, you'll understand the connotation behind that gift.;-)

Frys was packed. I hadn't been there for years, so it was totally like a new store to me. They have any electronic you could ever want or even think of! Not a good store to visit when you don't have much extra cash.:-S

Dinner was at Shanghai. I hate that place, but had a great surprise when we got there. They now serve steak! Needless to say, I got that instead of the usually Chinese stuff.

Sunday was N's b'day. Because it was his special day, C, L, and R came over for church. M's parents were visiting. It was good to see them again. D and B also had guests. The man was a judge down in Fresno. It was so cool talking to him. He explained to everyone how important this presidential election is. The next president will most likely have three places to fill in the Supreme Court. Whoever gets placed there will decide a lot of important issues coming up. If the FMA doesn't pass, it will end up there. I also got to talk to the judge about Moore and Prior. It was neat hearing it from a judge's point of view.

After lunch I got to hang out with E and C. Elizabeth was so cute. She was telling me all about trying to have a clean room with a messy sister. It was so funny seeing how time doesn't change things and how both our moms say the exact same things!! She has happy to hear that someone else had gone through the same trouble and still survived.;-) C is a sweet, little, lively girl. I'm so glad I got to have fun with them!

The guys finally dragged me out (willingly :-D) to play football. It was a perfect day. Hot if you were running too much, but nice if you didn't.:-) My team won, so it was an overall good game!;-)

I'm Not Holding My Breath

A book I'm reading expresses hope that maybe someday evolution will be recognized for the poor theory that it really is!

"One only hopes it will not be too long before the scientific community publicly acknowledges the implausibility of evolutionary theory, and textbooks written for high school and college students openly acknowledge that evolution simply is not a satisfactory explanation for the origin of life on the earth."

I just have to say that that won't be anytime soon unless they come up with an alternate theory to explain away the existence of the world. Whether people recognize it or not, evolution is "true" to these people because they don't want to accept its alternative! Do you know how they'd have to live if they believed that there was a God who would one day judge the world?? I don't see any new theories that are widely accepted, but I wouldn't put it past them to be scared to death and scrounging for something else.

Family Worship

Once in awhile I'm going to post my thoughts on some of the discussions we have in class. Even if you don't agree with me, I hope you have fun reading them!:-D

I believe that children even as young as 6 and below can benefit from the church's worship service. Have you ever experienced the prayers of a 2 year old or heard children too young to read bellow out the tune to a hymn? Contrary to common belief, children can be trained to sit still. It won't happen over night, but with practice, they can worship right alongside the older people. Even if they don't understand every word spoken, what a blessing to learn how to sit and listen from watching your father and mother. What a joy it is for parents, not to be distracted from worship, but to be the ones to teach their children and worship as a family.

If you're interested in reading more, here and here are some articles I found.

What _Am_ I Doing??

In the middle of my senior year I was totally planning on leaving that fall for PHC. That February, though, Distance Learning began, and I jumped in. I had fun, learned a lot, and really enjoyed it. My mom felt that God had brought this at the right time, and that I should just keep doing DL for at least another year. That semester PHC also started the Campus & Home program (fall/spring online and summers on-campus). My mom saw this as an answer to prayer (her prayers ;-) ). I didn't really agree with her, but that fall I started to change my mind. God really worked on me, and I've changed a lot. My beliefs about church, family, what it means it means to be a women of God and a submissive daughter are just a few places God has worked. I finally finished my C&H application and got it sent in, only to find out that C&H was changing. It was now 2 years though DL and 2 years on-campus. I believe that God wants me to stay at home under my parents. This was totally not an easy decision!!! You probably have no idea how long and hard I've been fighting it. So at least for this year (and who knows how many more), on-campus is kinda out of the question. I'm really having a hard time figuring out what to do. PHC was my dream for so long, it's hard to give it up. Even picking a major is hard. I was an Ed. major because that's all PHC had that I was interested in, and I thought it would be great for if I got married and had kids. But if I don't get married, I really want to do intensive ministry. Sometimes I just cry, "God, please, just tell me what to do! I just want this to be settled." I feel like a boat out in the middle of the sea without oars or a sail. I hope this dumping doesn't stress you out. ;-) Some of you have been asking me about my plans, and I wanted you to know where I am. Thanx for all your prayers!

Updates

Ok, I'm finally gonna update y'all on a few things:

I finished the Walk for Life last May and raised $2,010 for LivingWell Medical Clinic. I was so surprised that you could've knocked me over with a feather!! God is awesome!!!

For all you that were bored with my website, I finally got around to updating it when school started! There's still more I want to do, but I don't see it happening for a lil while more. I hope you like what I've done so far!

Last Sunday was our rest home ministry. As usual, we didn't get by without some laughs. My sister Liz was helping some ladies turn to the right songs. When she asked one lady if she wanted help, the lady said, "hunny, I'm sleeping!!" :-D So while we might have 25+ residents in the room...yeah. ;-)

Bump, Set, Spike!

S & Me

I had so much fun last night! One of my best friends, S, is going to Simpson and had her first volleyball game in Roseville. They played against William Jessup. J, S's sister, is going to William Jessup and wasn't sure who to cheer for! Family won out, though, and it was an awesome match! It went to five games with Simpson winning by two points! S was the one that won two of the games with her serve and spike! I'm so glad I got to see her play at least one game and meet the teammates I've been hearing about. Good luck, S!

The tragedy in Russia has been sad and horrific for me. While I hope that more Russians (my missionary cousins also) will decide to homeschool their children, I don't believe that these terrorists will stop at taking over schools. My aunt just sent me an e-mail asking me to pray for the Russian people. I had a hard time keeping tears back as I read. Here are some excerpts from her forward:

"Dear Partners in the Gospel,

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! In recent days
we have received the shocking reports of the massacre of precious children,
their parents and teachers at the Beslan Middle School in Northern Ossetia
in the Caucasas Region of Russia. Here at Slavic Gospel Association we
have closely watched all the media reports and also been in contact with
the local Christian community in Beslan. Such depraved evil directed at
innocent children is beyond my ability to process. Our tears are flowing,
especially for the Christian families, and for all who have lost loved ones to
such horrific brutality.

The president of the Russian Baptist Union (Union of Evangelical
Christians- Baptists of Russia or UECB) Pastor Yuri Sipko visited the
Beslan catastrophe site on Saturday. He asked me to thank Christian
brothers and sisters in North America for their prayers and expressions of
love for the victims and their families. Pastor Sipko sent the following report
and asked me to forward it to concerned churches and individuals.

"The UECB Baptist Church in Beslan is located near the school where the
great tragedy occurred. The pastor’s name is Michael. Eleven children
from the church families were held hostage and terrorized by the
attackers. Of the eleven Baptist children who were held hostage, three are
now at home and one boy is in the hospital. One woman from the church,
Irina, was able to escape from the school with one of her children but saw
her 9-year old son shot to death in front of her eyes. Another member of
the Baptist church is also named Irina and she has not been able to find
her child.

Sergei(Konstantine) Totiev is a church planter in the area sponsored by
the Kodiak Bible Chapel in Kodiak, Alaska. He and his wife had three
children among the hostages. Their nine year old daughter, Anna, is
believed dead, but it is still unconfirmed. Their twelve year old son,
Azamat, is in the hospital with a severe eye injury. Their younger child is
still missing.

Sergei(Konstantine) has a brother named Temuraz. He and his wife have
five children. One daughter, Magina, was hospitalized for a short time but
is now home. They are trying to find their other four children.

Please pray for the following children of Sergei Totiev and his brother
Temuraz Totiev who are still missing. They are Dzerassa age 15, Anna 9,
Larisa 14, Luba 12, Albina 11, and Boris 8.

Today I spoke with the superintendent of the Baptist churches in the
region, brother Victor Levashov and also with the pastor from nearby
Vladikavkas, Peter Lunichkin. Yesterday Peter visited with Sergei and
Teimuraz Totiev. The situation in Beslan is difficult. They are grateful for
your greetings and concern, but they are in shock. There are more than
400 children in the hospitals. Many are badly injured and burned.
Identifying the injured is extremely difficult. Many are so traumatized that
they are unable to say their names or the names of their parents.
Identifying the bodies of those who have died is equally difficult as many
of them were killed by explosions and the ensuing fires. It is felt that the
number who have perished will reach five hundred.

Please pray often for all the families that have been affected. Pray for the
pastors and the churches who are seeking to minister to all who have lost
precious little loved ones. Pray that the Lord will grant them great wisdom
and enduring strength in handling the situation and make them channels
of Christ's great love for all the victims and their families. Again, your
prayers and concern are deeply appreciated."

Pastor Yuri Sipko for the UECB of Russia.

Fire, Fire!

For almost being fall, the weather acts like it's the middle of summer! After the Colfax fire that was only 8 miles away, another fire started in Greenhorn, a matter of yards away from us. Luckily our awesome fire fighters were able to put it out before it got to any houses! It was close enough to cause some excitement, and a couple families couldn't go home from church for awhile You know how kids get when stuff like this happens.;-) "Yay, we can't go home!" "Maybe we'll get to spend the night!" So all in all I had an exciting afternoon, though one I sure don't hope to repeat anytime soon!:-)
