Our security does not rest in life, or money, or friends. Only through God do we even have a hope for our future.
This is going to be the hardest for my dad, especially after losing his sister this last summer. Please pray for boldness in my family to witness to my Grandpa and for his salvation.
On a good note, little E D has arrived!! We're gonna head on down there, so more details to come!
The Joy of Boyhood
-----------------------------------------------------------------
It was finally here, the first water fight of the summer! We'd been preparing for weeks and now the time had arrived! Early the morning of the fight, I got up, slipped on my clothes, and ran to prepare my ammunition. I couldn't help but sing as I went "Oh, what a beautiful morning. Oh, what a beautiful day..." The birds must have sensed something was about to happen because they were unusually still for such a clear, crisp day. It didn't take long for my stockpile to grow, and I eagerly ran off to join my friends at Bowman's farm.
The Bowmans had lived in the area for years and let us kids use their back field for our water fight. While their own kids were grown, a couple of the grandkids had come to visit and came out to join us.
Just like me, Sarah, Conner, and Jason had a big supply to water balloons as well as some water guns for the fight. As the sun rose higher and higher in the sky, more of the neighborhood kids came out to join us. Soon teams were made and the fun began!
It didn't take me long to hit almost half of the players on the other team. It might have to do with the fact that they were mostly girls. I'd run back and forth across the field, scoot around to the back, and launch a balloon before they even had time to act! Of course a few attempted to hit me as I ran away, but those girls can't throw worth a nickel! The only one I had to keep my eye on was David. David was the captain of the other team and the best player out there. In years past he'd been able to launch a balloon all the way across the field and hit his target dead on! But this year he was going down!
While half my team kept launching, the other half devised a plan of action. Because the Bowmans had a little abandoned shack in the west corner of the field, Jason said we should use it to our advantage. After thinking it over, I came up with a plan. Sarah would be our bate as she was the one that looked like the easiest target. After catching David's attention, she'd run toward the shack and around the corner furthest from sight. Meanwhile, Conner, Jason, and I would hide behind the shack loaded with ammo to take David down.
The plan worked like a charm. David couldn't resist such an easy looking victim and was soon heading our way. As they closed in, us boys grinned at each other and could hardly keep from laughing. Only a few more moments before victory would be ours! Three seconds were all that was left, but it seemed like an eternity. Wait, where was Sarah going?? She knew where we were hiding, so why was she heading the other direction?! It didn't take long for us to realize that we had been tricked! Cold water ran down our backs as we turned to face a hose backed by tens of thousands of...girls!! Josh, Conner, and I ran back toward the middle of the field, licking our wounds as we went. They may have gotten us this year, but we'll be back next year to make them wish they had never been born!! BOYS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grr...
Poor Spam. They took a fine meat product and changed it into despicable, ugly, evil e-mails.
Why do people change the meaning of words? Isn't it bad enough to have to remember the words we already have, much less the new ones with their new meanings and new meanings for the old words we already have meanings for? Ignore that preposition there.
Come back next time for Lydia's rant at...umm, whatever is ticking me off at that moment. ;-)

Thoughts
Some days I look at my life and wonder why I can't be like everyone else. Why does it seem like my beliefs are always the ones that are held by the tiniest minorities, if any at all. It would be so much easier to just float down the river. From courtship, to music, to college, I'm so different. It's so hard when I don't even have one friend around that believes the same way I do.
The end of the semester always brings about reflection. The struggles of these past months have already almost been forgotten, but one thing that's stuck in my mind is the feeling of contentment. I'm still wrestling with college stuff, but I really feel like this is where God wants me to be. I look back and realize how much I would've missed if I had gone away. Why do I struggle to trust God when it's so worth doing?! Why all the trials and fears? I can only say that it must be God's way of refining me. He has a lot of work left to do!
I've always wanted an older brother. There are many reasons why, but one very nice reason is the bodyguard factor. Now I have "younger brothers" who could prolly act as pretty good shields, but they're not always around. To my dismay, I've learned that PHC isn't as perfect as I've dreamed. Creeps exist everywhere. :-/ I have guy friends on-campus who aren't the kind to stand around while a girl is being annoyed, but I'm not really comfortable with the idea of having to rely on other guys to always protect me. I don't mind the gentlemanly acts that come once in awhile, but isn't that mainly supposed to be my dad's job? What would I do if I left home? Should I have to rely on the goodness of friends to protect me? These are questions raging in my brain that won't leave me alone! It's a wonder I haven't been sent to a counselor... ;-)
Thank you to my dear friends who have encouraged and strengthened me this past semester!!

Don't Lose the Wonder!

...of God's love for us.
...of the Savior of the world as a tiny baby.
...of Christ's death and resurrection.
...of our salvation through Jesus.
I could go on and on...
The best things happen while you're dancing
Things you would not do at home
Come naturally on the floor
For dancing soon becomes romancing
When you hold a girl in your arms
That you've never held before
Even guys with two left feet
Come out alright if the girl is sweet
If by chance their cheeks should meet while dancing
Proving that the best things happen while you dance
Out of the Mouths of Babes...
Luke B.: Yes I have decided to never fight with Lydia ever again.
Luke B.: Yes Lydia you always manage to beat me.
Luke B.: Lydia is always right.
Smart guy, too bad more people don't follow his example! ;-)
JEL Revisited

So much fun and so little time! I really need to go visit PHC. Besides seeing the campus, I could see some of my wonderful friends! I know, they're here right now, but I'm going to miss them so much when they go back. We celebrated Emily's b'day today 'cause she'll be in Tahoe on Sunday. All the girls met at the bead store to get down with beads. It was a lot of fun, and I actually missed doing it. After doing it for years with my sisters, I dropped it completely. Maybe I'll take time this break to get back into it... Then again, maybe not. ;-)

First things first, S is back!!!!!!!!!!! I had so much fun hangin' with her! Hot chocolate, scrapbooking (she's the journaling fanatic ;-)@S), burnt bagel sandwiches (the best!!), talking, pictures, and crocheting almost made up for the time she was away. Btw, I've asked my dad about Christmas Eve, S. I'm still awaiting his answer. I think the tamales might influence him... ;-)

Sheri and I went to see Ann's baby for the first time. She is so cute!! She has a lot of hair for a 7 week old that has a slight reddish tinge and blue eyes. Matt is going to be able to come home in February for two weeks! I bet he can't wait to see the both of them. I'm so happy for them! Keep praying that God would keep Matt safe!

If I didn't know any better, I'd think that the Reeds have had a camera following me around. Today Luke gave something really, really cool! It's something I've been searching for, especially the last couple of weeks...a courtship candle!! The story behind it is kinda funny, which is why I like it so much. ;-) When a young man came to court a young lady, the father of the girl would light this candle. The young man was allowed to stay and visit until the candle burned down to the first rung. If the father liked the young man, he would move the candle up higher allowing it to burn longer. If he didn't particularly care for the young man, the father would move the candle down to get rid of him faster! :-D

Here is a sample of how you dress for Cornish Christmas. Granted, I didn't do it, but 'tis the proper way if you like to be proper. ;-)

O Christmas Tree...

We finally got our tree! It was sooo cold that I bundled up in my long sleeved shirt, pants, jacket, boots, scarf, and gloves. Amazingly I survived!:-) The last three years we've gone to this tree farm off of Hwy. 49. The people are Christians and are really nice. After looking at all of them, we finally selected a beautiful eleven foot tree. It's quite lovely, if I do say so myself! Of course we'll have to cut off a couple of feet, but it's gonna be just perfect!
EDIT: My sister informed me that the tree was actually eleven feet, so the correction is duly noted.;-)
There's so much to do even before school ends. I need to plan my MK open house and invite people, prepare for the CEF winter retreat that starts tomorrow, get making some of my Christmas presents, and remember to breath! Not sure if I'm gonna make it...
