Pearl Harbor Day

December 7th, "a day which will live in infamy." It has been sixty-six year since the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. So many things have changed since then. Not many of the men who fought to keep us free then are still alive. Don't wait another year to thank them!

If you've been reading my blog over the years, you may remember a post I did on Jake DeShazer. He was one of the original Doolittle Raiders who was taken captive by the Japanese for over three years. It was His faith in God and obedience to Him that sent him back to Japan, this time to bring them the good news of the Gospel. Since I wrote that post, I found a place that has mp3s of an interview with Jake Deshazer! If you haven't already, be sure to read my past post to learn about the power of forgiveness. Then go on to read Fuchida's testimony and more about Jake DeShazer.

Freedom?

This article describes something that has been on my heart for the last few years, but has been weighing more heavily as of late. As many of my friends have graduated from college or are finishing up their senior year, I see how much they've changed. And while change can be good, many of the ones I see are sad. They don't want to be around their families, their lives revolve around their friends, late night movie marathons, and ways to cheat death, and they are sheltered away from real life. Now this may not be true for everyone, but read on and see if this doesn't sadly describe the majority:
Not long ago I made a trip to Los Angeles. I went to see an old friend and to visit a college. One day of the five-day trip would be spent on the campus, the rest with my buddy. We'd known each other all through high school and grown up together in our church. Now he was living by himself in Hollywood making a go of acting. The time was a nice break in my usual routine of being at home and working on the magazine. And it gave me an opportunity to get an up-close look at two things I was curious about: the single lifestyle of someone my age living on his own, and the campus lifestyle of a bunch of people my age living together. I was curious because, well, I guess because of, peer pressure. Most of the people I know I absolutely insist that getting out of your home after high school is one of the most vital things a human being can do. I'm not exaggerating this. I remember the college-age leader at my youth group, a student at a local Bible school, who counseled me to "get away from my parents" as soon as I could. He said it would help me grow as a person...

Desiring God 2007 Regional Conference Recap

This is late, but the Desiring God 2007 Regional Conference was amazing! It was held in west Sacramento at a friend's church where it was rumored they redid the lighting just for the conference! The topic was the Pleasures of God. If you've ever heard John Piper before, you know he's an incredible speaker. He is so passionate about what he believes that it carries over to the listeners. You can tell he knows God intimately . Yet he somehow causes you to forget about him and just be delighted in and focused on God! Thankfully for all those of you who weren't able to attend, you can download the audio and video sessions! I'll be posting more pictures from the conference on my photography site.

Christians & Yoga

Everybody's doing it. So what's the big deal? Yoga is one of the most well known forms of exercise practiced today and has been embraced by many Christians. But is it just another way to stay in shape or does its foundation in paganism make it something believers should pass up?

Be sure to watch the end where John MacArthur doesn't pull any punches!

...Or Your Hard Drive...

All of the MP3 messages on the Sovereign Grace Store have just been made free to download. You can sort by topic, by event, or by speaker.

Want to check out C.J.'s messages? You just have to sort by his name. You can also find messages by other Sovereign Grace pastors such as Bob Kauflin, Josh Harris, Jeff Purswell, and Dave Harvey. Or you can find messages by guest speakers such as Al Mohler, Wayne Grudem, Mark Dever, Randy Alcorn, John Piper, David Powlison, Ken Sande, R.C. Sproul, Bruce Ware, and more.

You can also find messages from the GirlTalkers: Carolyn Mahaney, Nicole Whitacre, Kristin Chesemore, and Janelle Bradshaw.

How about specific topics? If you need messages on bible doctrine--the essential teachings of the Christian faith--you can find them on the store. You can also find messages on a wide range of topics, such as biblical counseling, modesty, finances, marriage, parenting, and much more.

I don't know about you, but I'm terribly excited about this news!! The only thing these messages will cost is time spent day dreaming of high speed internet and an iPod. Oh wait, maybe that's all it'll cost me. ;-)

Moving Advice

"They say it takes one to know one. So when a guy is handing out valuable 'guy tips,' I pay attention. This bit of insight is courtesy of my friend and fellow blogger, Ben.

Advice for Women: Before You Marry a Guy . . .

. . . make a point of being around when he's helping someone in your church move. As in carrying boxes and furniture onto trucks and into a house. You won't learn everything, but you'll learn some pretty important things. Is he showing initiative to find out what's next or hanging around waiting for instructions? Does he find creative ways to use cargo dollies to move stuff more quickly and efficiently? Is he a quiet hard-working loner, a benevolent team-oriented organizer, or a loudmouth boss? Or is he really more like a stationary piece of furniture himself?

Here's the most important one: Does he always seem to be conveniently available but not quite on the business end of the couch when it's going up the stairs?

And by the way, try to act like you're not paying attention. Stay busy helping pack or clean the kitchen and sneak a peek every now and then. Otherwise he'll be picking his moments to try to impress you."

Love Thy [Unborn] Neighbor

The pro-life week is over, but the battle continues on. Here are several resources to keep you encouraged and informed all year long:

-Life Training Institute-home of Scott Klusendorf, one of America’s leading pro-life advocates. Learn to defend life, read articles, and download messages. Be sure to check out his schedule for conferences in your area.

-Abort73.com-I found this through Scott’s site and now it’s one of my favorites. Here you learn the truth about abortion through a graphic video and articles. Sometimes reality doesn’t hit unless you can see it with your own eyes. The video is not for all, but it has helped many to confront the truth about abortion.

-Stand to Reason-a new ministry I found through Justin Taylor’s blog. I’m still looking into it, but right now they are offering for free (with $5 s&h) the VHS Making Abortion Unthinkable by Scott Klusendorf and Gregory Koukl.

-Justice for All-a group that brings exhibits to college campuses in order to show the truth about abortion.

-The Center for Bioethical Reform-all you need to know about abortion. (graphic pictures on the homepage)

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

Christian Homemaking Conference

That's right, a conference you can listen to right in your own home! The topics include:
-Why full-time homemaking isn't about high heels and pearls.
-Homemaking 101: Help! How did my grandmother know how to do all this stuff?
-Training daughters to be competent and visionary keepers at home.
-For busy moms of little ones: how to avoid growing weary in well-doing.
-Why teenage rebellion isn't inevitable and how you can avoid it (panel discussion).
-Q&A with speakers

If you sign up before February 10, the registration fee is discounted $10 at $40. This fee covers immediate family members! I can't wait to learn and be encouraged!

Regenerated Radio
Square Talk Radio has now been transformed to Regenerated Radio--part of Regenerate Our Culture! There are new shows up with topics for the future ones posted. I'm still amazed at how they put this together!

Updated Sites
It seems like fall is bringing in the urge to revamp. Both The Rebelution and New Attitude are sporting new skins with lots of neat features! At The Rebelution, be sure to check out all the great articles on the Resources page and make suggestions for ones that just have to be added. My favorite feature at Na, besides the free sermons ;-), is the ability to upload pics for their possible usage on the site!

Contest
If you're into free stuff (who isn't?), enter this contest to win a package of over $700 worth of Vision Forum stuff!! To enter, guess how many new products will be in their new catalog. For rules and details on how to enter, go to Life in a Shoe.

The Outdoor Bible
Yep, it's tear-resistant and waterproof! Not only is it great for camping trips, but project Light of the World 2006 is helping to get them to our troops!

New Blog
Teens On Their Knees is a blog for sharing prayer requests with each other. I'm not sure who's in charge of it, but I think the idea is great.
All you have to do is leave your request or praise as a comment. You are more than welcome to remain anonymous if you would like. And if your request is a little more personal, you can always email it to us: TeensOnTheirKnees@gmail.com.
Then be sure to prayer for all the requests as they're posted!

Good News
Last month I was blessed to get a dream lens for my camera! It's a Canon 70-200 2.8L IS USM. The lens came right in time for the wedding I photographed a couple of weeks ago. Keep on the lookout for pics!

Sad News
There is now only one teenager left in our house. :-(
