Word, Idea or Both?

If you live in California, you've probably heard about all the initiatives going around to protect marriage. Two of the top organizations working towards preserving marriage are Capitol Resource Institute (CRI) and Campaign for California Families (CCF). Both are great Christian groups that have worked towards keeping California free in many different areas, but on this issue, these groups are divided. Each believes that marriage should be protected, but differs on how best achieve that purpose.

CRI has allied itself with ProtectMarriage.com whose amendment simply says, “A marriage between a man and a woman is the only legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this state." CCF, on the other hand, has yet another site, VoteYesMarriage.com, on which you can read the initiative for yourself.

As voters, we first need to decide on what we're trying to save. Are we only concerned about the definition of the word "marriage," or do we also want to save what it represents? According to my research, the ProtectMarriage.com will do the former, but if the latter is a concern, only the VoteYesMarriage.com act will suffice. Michael Farris, representing Home School Legal Defense Association, agrees along with other constitutional lawyers who together said that the VoteYesMarriage.com act is “the only one that will fully protect marriage between a man and a woman.”

Personally, I believe that the word along with the idea needs to be protected. The choice is up to you, though. Do a little research, check out both sides, then be sure to jump on board! Know that this is a long battle. Fighting for what's right has never been short or easy!
