EDIT: The memorial service is on Thursday. Also, please pray for the young man that hit into them. He's only 20 years old. I can't even imagine what he must be going through.
"MAJOR ACCIDENT-There was a major two car accident between a Ford mini-van and Chevy pick-up truck on Highway 99, just north of Township Road, Thursday morning. Details were sketchy at press time, but according to the California Highway Patrol a man from Auburn and a woman from Boulder, CO suffered fatal injuries in the accident. Their names were not released. Also in the van were Karen Sandberg of Minneapolis, MN and Tyrone Hauze and Peter McMillian, both of St. Louis, MO. All three suffered major injuries. Suffering moderate injuries was the driver of the pick-up truck, Mike A. Sander, 20, of Yuba City. According to the CHP Sander was driving north bound on Highway 99 at 55 to 60 MPH, when he allowed his vehicle to drift into the path of the mini-van. The CHP report indicated that Sander was fatigued and may have fallen asleep. The accident was reported to the Gridley-Biggs Police Department (GBPD) at 8:38 a.m. Several GBPD officers responded. Officers from the CHP also responded as did the Biggs-Gridley Memorial Hospital Ambulance, Gridley CDF, Caltrans and two medical transport helicopters. Highway 99 traffic had to be detoured around the accident. A recent survey of data from the Fatal Accident Reporting System (FARS) identified Highway 99 as the deadliest road in Sutter County and second deadliest (second to Highway 70) in Butte County.
