God Is Good All The Time

I had a most uplifting day! Ken and Julie Vaughn, missionaries to Cote d'Ivoire, came to visit. They greatly encouraged us through events that started out looking bad, but ended up as a strong testimony of God's grace and goodness. The Vaughns teach at a school for MKs. About three years ago, rebels (the good guys ;-) ) rose ups against the gov't and turned the country into a battlefield. Because the school is walled in and on a hill at the entrance of the town, it was the best place for the soldiers to go. When the first soldier stepped through the gate, he stopped, shot off a few rounds into the sky, then turned and ran out. The soldiers surrounded and fought around the campus, but never went back inside as long as the kids and missionaries were there. The Vaughns can only attribute this miracle to God! Finally the French army came to help them evacuate. The Vaughns were planning to fly out, but the gov't had roused the college students, and their mobs shut down the airport. For three days they stayed hidden in a house until they heard that planes were once again flying. There was still one problem they had to face--the trip across town to get to the airport. This could be dangerous because the mobs were stopping all white people, beating them up, and burning their cars. Before they left, Ken and Julie printed American flags and taped them to the car. Instead of terrorizing the Vaughns, the mobs gave them thumbs up and cheered them on. What an awesome God we serve!! Ken and Julie will finally be going back to Cote d'Ivoire in May to start cleaning up and preparing to open again. Throughout this whole experience, their theme has been: God is good all the time.
